Pharmacy Intern II: Kaiser Permanente

PURPOSE: The pharmacy intern will support the department in the provision of pharmaceutical care while acquiring the required skills and experience needed to become a licensed pharmacist.
This position upholds Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the pharmacy intern:
Obtains new prescription and prescription refill information from the patient, the health care provider, or pharmacy information system.
Accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from the computer.
Dispenses, compounds, and distributes pharmaceutical products.
Solicits information on medical history from the patient, health care provider, or computer system.
Provides drug information and advice to the patient or health care professional.
Counsels patients on appropriate prescription and over the counter drug use and storage.
Provides excellent customer service.
Operates a cash register.
Assures compliance to all regulatory rules and regulations and Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures to include but not limited to:
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
State Boards of Pharmacy
HIPAA
Principles of Responsibility
Performs special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS –
Relevant Years of Experience:
No years of work experience required
Education and/or Classes:
Pharmacy student status enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy and attending classes in the second year of professional study required.
License, Certification and/or Designation:
Licensed or registered as a pharmacy intern in the jurisdiction where employed as required by the applicable jurisdiction’s regulations
