Full-time Nurse Scientist

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To conduct independent scientific studies and research in the field nursing research for a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents. The Nurse Researcher conducts their own program of research as well as mentoring others in the research process. This researcher provides expertise in design, development, analysis, and dissemination of new knowledge and the use of evidence to guide and support clinical practice.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design, execute and record laboratory experiments; apply standard scientific protocols to experiments, research and improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques.

2. Draft, write and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles and abstracts, submit grants.

3. Train and supervise the work of other laboratory personnel as appropriate.

4. Design and perform experiments and record data according to research protocol. Independently reproduce, evaluate, research and improve techniques currently used. Adapt new methods to existing procedures and modify current experiments through scientific knowledge and intuition.

' Review Patient Services research for scientific merit
' Holds a faculty appointment with a school of nursing
' Follow policies and procedures governing the handling of confidential information as defined by Cincinnati Children's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information.
' Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs of Cincinnati Children's research initiatives as determined by department management and Cincinnati Children's governing body.
' Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars.
' Recommend approaches for improvement activities, recommend and perform new processes, collect and measure data, develop processes based on performance and communicate results.
' Uses coaching, teaching, and mentoring skills to inspire and build confidence in others to forge alliances and garner support for research and evidenced-based practice activities and projects.
' Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; performs duties at the desired level of competency.
' Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department
' Communicates effectively with all levels of staff, professional peers, administrators, and external constituents. Exhibits professional character, attitude, and appearance.
' Serves as a liaison with local universities schools of nursing to facilitate research and evidenced 'based practice activities between institutions. Networks with other researchers locally and nationally.
' Involved in professional nursing organizations/activities.
' Participates in community service activities.
' Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrate attention to detail, strong organizational skills, supervisory ability and an innovative approach to experimental design. Analytical ability sufficient to compare data; ability to synthesize information and to create and deal with new situations by applying past experience. Expressed willingness to teach others and to share results. Capable of meeting time demands necessary to execute research.

EDUCATIONWORK EXPERIENCE:
' A doctorate in Nursing or a related field with a strong emphasis in research. If Doctorate is in related field, a Master's degree in Nursing is required.
' Demonstrated expertise in nursing practice, education, and research.
' Demonstrated ability to write and publish in professional journals and texts.
' Demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding for research.
' Demonstrated ability in education (coaching, mentoring, teaching skills)
' Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
' Holds faculty appointment with the UC College of Nursing
