Human Resources Co-op / Intern

Brooks Instrument, a global manufacturer of flow measurement and control instrumentation, is seeking candidates for a Human Resources Intern / Co-op position at our headquarters facility in Hatfield, PA. (Suburban Philadelphia) Brooks Instrument is a world leading supplier of flow measurement and control devices to the low flow application market in both developed and emerging markets. Brooks has nine operating units, including manufacturing, sales, and service, six of which are foreign units, and customers in 75 countries.
The Human Resources Intern / Co-op will have the opportunity to gain a broad exposure to a variety of HR generalist functions. This position will interface with and be expected to assist a highly responsive, customer-focused group of HR professionals that is focused on supporting the needs of our U.S. based employees. Specific duties and responsibilities include assisting and supporting:
• Organizing employee relation’s activities.
• Administration of safety and workers compensation processes.
• Recruiting activities and new-hire orientation processes.
• Coordinating and documenting training initiatives.
• Administration of the performance management process.
• Maintenance of employee personnel files to be in line with company policies and government regulations. This includes maintaining data in the HR Management System (HRMS).
• Maintenance of employee documents such as handbooks and policy manuals.
• Assist department managers in creating training plans, job descriptions, etc.
• Assist with employee benefit administration activities (medical, dental, life, disability, 401(k), FSA and COBRA, etc.).
Requirements
This position is required to partner with employees across all levels of the organization, so excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills are a must. Also, given the nature of the work environment, successful candidates must be very organized and enjoy multi-tasking.
We are seeking the following background for candidates to be considered for this position:
• Should be actively pursuing a four year university degree with an accredited institution. First preference would be for students majoring in human resources or a related field of study.
• Preference would be for candidates to have had prior experience working in an office environment.
• Fully computer literate in all respects, including a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office suite. Experience working with payroll and human resource management systems is a plus.
• Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly motivated self-starter with a high degree of initiative, creativity, and problem solving ability.
• Multi-tasking with a detail orientation and commitment to accountability in a fast-paced environment.
