Sports Television Internships Available at the Orlando Sentinel
The Orlando Sentinel Varsity Sports Show is a fast-paced, multi-media television and Internet program that covers high school sports in Central Florida. This exciting program showcases local athletes, teams, coaches and fans. The television show airs twice weekly: Sundays at noon on WRDQ (Ch. 27) and again at midnight on WFTV (Ch. 9).
We’re seeking assistance from talented local college students to enhance our program. In return, we’ll provide a real-world, educational experience. We’re looking for organized, professional, dedicated and outgoing students who are looking for a challenging and exciting internship in the TV industry. All interns will play a key role in the completion of our weekly shows and Web content. The interns’ work may be used in actual shows and on the Web.
The Orlando Sentinel Varsity Sports Show has the following internship opportunities available for the fall semester:
Sports Journalist Internship (2 openings)
These students will join our reporting team and play a major role in our coverage of high school sports in Central Florida. The responsibilities include contacting coaches, players and teams; setting up meeting times and interviews; writing scripts for television packages; logging footage; conducting interviews; doing field reporting at games or other events; and working occasionally as voice talent for packages. Students will have the opportunity to see their work in weekly shows and Webcasts.
Students must be highly organized and possess good camera presence with an interest in sports broadcasting.
Sports Production Internship (2 openings)
These students will join our production team and play a major role in our coverage of high school sports in Central Florida. The responsibilities include logging tapes; importing footage; editing packages and web content; shooting games and practice footage; assisting senior editor and camera operators on shoots; interviewing players, coaches and fans; and organizing and archiving footage. Students will have the opportunity for their work to be showcased in weekly shows and Webcasts.
Production interns must have experience with non-linear editing and camera operation.
Sports Web Content Internship (1 opening)
This student will be a liaison between our production and reporting team while working directly for the producer/web content producer. The responsibilities of the Sports Web Content Interns include: writing content for web; researching high school sports stories; assisting producer in various tasks for show completion; and updating websites as needed with results and new information.
Web Content interns must possess strong writing skills with experience in sports content.
Students must be receiving college credit and must be available a minimum of 12 hours a week and occasionally on weekends. These positions are for the Fall 2008 semester. This internship is unpaid.
