Full-time Intern/Volunteer Coordinator

at Community Media Center of Carroll County in Westminster, MD

POSITION: INTERN/VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

OVERVIEW: Responsible for developing and maintaining the Community Media Center (CMC) internship program. Manages the recruitment, training, and supervision of secondary and post-secondary student interns at the Community Media Center. This position will match students with media center projects as appropriate to serve the needs of Carroll County non-profit and governmental agencies. Other duties include assisting staff in planning and contacting volunteers for studio and value-added projects. This position also develops and plans workshop training sessions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Interns

•Develop and maintain internship program, including criteria and process for accepting student interns into the program.
•Write curriculum to facilitate student internships.
•Advise and instruct interns on production equipment, concepts, and workplace practices.
•Educate interns in media literacy and community television.
•Interview students, check references, and select qualified candidates.
•Match student interns to Community Media Center and/or PEG partner projects.
•Solicit media projects from community stakeholders.
•Supervise and evaluate student progress toward internship goals.

Volunteers

•Develop appropriate classes to train volunteer to produce programming for community television.
•Coordinate part-time instructors as necessary.
•Work with production coordinator to assess production needs and identify volunteers for station productions and projects.
•Maintain all pertinent records including updating volunteer and intern information in CMC database.
•Perform related duties as needed by Operations Manager or Director.
•Assist in any special events coverage or studio shoots.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcast journalism, or related field with teaching experience.
3-5 years experience in working with students. Experience in curriculum development preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

•Knowledge of relevant computer software programs and applications.
•Familiar with television production formats and equipment
•Experience teaching and/or training in media including production, editing, graphics, and remote multiple camera set up and production
