Spring Traffic Intern
at Tribune Company in New York, NY
Purpose:
WPIX, a Tribune Broadcasting television station in New York City, will host an Intern in the Traffic Department for Spring 2008. This internship will provide an opportunity to experience the fundamentals of Traffic and the synergy between Traffic, Sales, Programming and Engineering departments as it relates to on-air production and ultimately revenue growth. In addition, this internship is designed to combine study with hands-on experience. The intern will also have the opportunity to shadow professionals.
The learning objectives and responsibilities are as follows:
Sales/Engineering Departments
• Exposure to Sales Order Entry
• Learn about Commercial Instructions and tape receipt
• Assist with advertiser separation on log
• Assist with maintenance of Tape Library
Program Department
• Exposure to show scheduling
• Programming Sheet (Reading Louth screening sheets)
• Learn and understand difference between segments and commercial breaks
Requirements
• Program ratings
• National syndicated commercials
• Exact timing a log
Qualified students must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, undergraduate or graduate program, have completed their sophomore year and in good academic standing. The qualified intern must be enrolled in a parallel major in the field of Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications etc., as the internship is designed to provide hands-on experience as it relates to major course of study. The successful candidate will have completed courses in broadcasting, have a general understanding of a television station and have applicable internship and/or volunteer experience. With proper documentation, the internship can be for credit, but is not necessary; a stipend will also be paid. EOE
