Fall 2008 Customized Programs Intern
at IES Abroad Institute for the International Education of Students in Chicago, IL
Description
General Overview of Customized Programs:
The Customized Programs team works with U.S. universities and colleges to develop and implement high quality, specialized (usually faculty-led and/or short-term) study abroad programs at our IES Abroad Centers.
Timing of Internship:
Approximately ten hours per week over ten weeks in the Fall of 2008 (start date is flexible)
Job Description:
One intern will be selected to work with the Customized Programs Department in IES Abroad's Chicago office. The two broad responsibilities for this position are data management and market research specific to short-term, study abroad programs. This internship is a great way for students to gain real-world experience in higher education administration, data research, and international education. This opportunity is available only to students receiving credit for the internship from their college/university. This position is unpaid.
Requirements
Skills Needed and Desired Qualities:
• Interest in study abroad and intercultural learning
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, research, and writing skills
• Administrative work experience a plus
• Respect confidential and sensitive information
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel in particular)
• Excellent organizational skills
• Attention to detail, especially related to data entry
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Independence and flexibility
Responsibilities: 50% Research and Analysis, 50% Data Management:
• Research U.S. colleges and universities to develop potential client leads
• Research, summarize, and analyze data on competition
• Review and track student and school information
• Analyze students’ program evaluations and summarize program successes and failures
• Pre-screen students’ medical reports prior to submission to Dean of Students office and to overseas Centers
• Maintain/update emergency contact information for students enrolled in current programs
• Enroll students in student insurance and send student insurance cards and information to Centers
• Other responsibilities as needed
